sim needs help with which is the best site to buy train tickets in the UK? is it a lot cheaper than buying at the station?

Yes, it is usually cheaper to buy online as far in advance as possible. We use trainline.com becuase it is easier and you can collect the tickets at the station from a machine just before you travel. It may not be the cheapest though... by soosy

I think you have to be wary when booking long distance overnight trips online as I've heard people thinking they've booked a cabin/ sleeper but it was only for a seat. Others will probably be able to advise further... by soosy

I always thought that trainline.com was the cheapest way to buy train tickets but last week I bought tickets just a couple of days before travelling from the station and found them cheaper than trainline.com. by arbymore

It often depends on the journey you want to make - If you book in advance (sometimes only a day or two early) and choose to travel on a specific service at a specific time then you can often get tickets a lot cheaper. The problem then is if you miss your train then you technically need to buy another ticket! Certain train companies will offer discount deals which you may only be able to buy through an agent (like one stop travel etc).Also, if you're travelling in a group of 4 you can get a 25% group discount! by Shut up and listen

Thanks, the chances of missing trains in London is always quite high due the public transport, what usually takes 30 minutes can often take an hour. Worth bearing in mind then. by sim

bad_housewife needs help with nettles. What's the best way to get rid of the little devils without destroying potential nice plants (I don't know what is in the garden yet but I do know I have enough nettles to start my very own soup kitchen)

I am not convinced you can. Everything I have read just says chop them as low as you can witht he ling handled choppers then dig put the roots :-( by julia1warner

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall did an amazing nettle beer that got sold nationally/ tasted like a great lager. I think Soosy's answer is the only one that will be effective from my experience (I tried the bad_housewife's approach and it didn't work) by darren

If you've got dark hair - an infusion of nettle is really good as a last rinse to add shine. But do leave as many nettles as you can bear as they are vital for many species of butterfly. I planted nettles in my garden!! by lizroz

I'd agree with Lizroz. The year we left our nettles and had a wild garden, we had so many lovely butterflies (our neighbours weren't so pleased though) by soosy

You can get half price theatre tickets to all National Theatre plays - you just have to turn up on the morning you want to go & wait til the ticket office opens at 9.30am. Arrive early to avoid disappointment, and take a cushion! (7am if it's a popular play) by eamc
