Maybe from seed but tbh mine germinated quite quickly - I started them inside on a sunny windowsil. I only planted them outside in the past week or two because of the late frosts. You could alway buy plug plants if it is too late to grow your own. I had great results from one from my local garden centre last year. by cakeshaped

Alison needs help with how to get rid of bind weed without needing to dig up the plants that it is growing over.

Bindweed is a bind; sorry about that, but there is only one way to clear it out and that is to dig it out! and make sure you do not leave any behind because, it will then grow again and the problem repeats itself. Of course, if you take all the plants out first and clean them off ensuring no bindweed remains lurking in the roots, you may then apply a systemic weedkiller, but this offers no guarantee. My general solution is to pull the bindweed off the plants and keep pulling as close to the soil as you can get; be ruthless and keep repeating and some times it gets the message and lays dormant for a while; but be ever alert and pull it out at the first sign. by stewart

Sarson needs help with my plum tree has too much fruit. It is so laden that one of the branches has snapped off. What shold I do to prevent others breaking?

Hi Rich, I assume the fruit isn't ripe otherwise you'd be picking it to solve the problem. I'd use some wooden supports, long poles (even a ladder) wedged under the branches. by sim

Staking can help but you might want to thin some of the plums out. I know it seems like a waste but the ones left will be better for it and it might help the following years crop too - or it may go the other way and you get next to no fruit next year. by cakeshaped

It's hard to know without seeing the tree - try removing some off the smaller or blighted ones and see if that helps the weight on the branch - just take it slow and steady. Then go with Sims staking idea. by cakeshaped

I think she might do, especially considering she'll see some acting and fancy costumes. I would be more concerned about how she would cope with having the music really loud: my daughter is nearly 4 and doesn't do cinema for this reason :) by Dolcemomo

Thankfully my little 'un loves loud noises and particularly an episode of the Zing Zillas recently with an opera singer. She's been to other theatre stuff and goes to the cinema so it should be fine. Glad you all don't think I'm crazy; it just sounds like such a great thing to do this summer. by golondon
