I know people use them for wine/cider because freecycle has been full of requests lately :-) Pretty sure you can cut up and freeze for later use. Probably too late this answer now. by cakeshaped

It might depend on the kind of apples! (or pears). Some are better for cider than others, and some apples will definitely be better for cooking. You could probably chutney them though. by Shut up and listen

Thanks Sim. We've read all the Roald Dahl ones, some of them twice. One of Dahl's book "Going Solo" is an autobiography which tells of Dahl's time flying in the war. I wasn't sure if Biggles books were similar by soosy

We got ours from a place called wigglywigglers.co.uk I think. No idea 'how' they are different but apparently you can't use ordinary garden worms. by cakeshaped

I got mine from wiggly wigglers too. They come mail order in a bag! They are smaller and flatter than traditional earth worms, and seem to breed prolifically, so you never run out. by Sarson
