pretty much, I'm a fan of computers but we seem to spend more and more time using them, work is one thing but then everything comes online now or can be bought online so often evening are spent buying tickets, researching products or places and sometimes it seems a little much by simstew

I know what you mean. Just last week 5yo asked me to look something up on the computer as I didn't know the answer. Instead I suggested getting a book out and looking it up. He wasn't impressed! Perhaps you should have an enforced 'power cut' for a period each week where you don't use the computer? by soosy

good idea, getting back in the habit of reading as finding TV very uninteresting at the moment, find reading much more relaxing and enjoyable, will stick to books for now, no iPad for the moment by simstew

I'm NOT taking lap top away. Neither is DH. I am scared I won't know what is happening in the world. I'm reading again too. Sitting with a book seems very luxurious and such a treat. by bad_housewife

was going to suggest a swimming pool in the garden if the weather is nice, we get hours of entertainment with that, usually ends up with everyone soaking wet. by sim

I am giving mine chores! Yesterday was hedge cutting and potting out. Today is washing cars, watering garden etc (as well as their normal *jobs*) They of course get paid. ! has asked me to do a maths worksheet with her, the other wants to watch some telly. We will also start our papier machee sculptures today (if we get time...) by bad_housewife

Hi Soosy, Have a look at this site: http://www.naturedetectives.org.uk/ I was looking at it yesterday and they have tonnes of stuff for kids to do in an outdoorsy setting. Make its and spotting, colour bingo, ID sheets, things to colour and make. Hours and hours of stuff. by Siobhan

simstew needs help with Can you get BBC iplayer if you live abroad? What is the best way to get UK programmes if you live in Spain?

I believe not as you have to buy a license, but I think things get posted online (via you-tube and other places) so you can watch programmes by bad_housewife

You don't have to pay a license to watch it in the UK so long as you are not watching live - I checked this before getting rid of telly and license. No, you can't watch it abroad though. Don't know the answer for getting the programmes in Spain. by Anytar

You can only watch iplayer in the UK unfortunately - but I find that typing 'watch _____ online' into google normally brings up what I want! by eamc
