We've always used Hertz in Spain. We've never had any problems and they have always been OK sorting our child seats etc. Probably not the cheapest but reliable. by Goosey

Hi Soosy, it depends where in Madrid you want to be but there's several NH hotels that are usually modern and good value for money. The Ayre Colon is also good value and worth a look at. by sim

I normally just go on moneysupermarket.com or compare the market and trawl through all the stuff. Make sure you read the policy summary carefully though and make sure you're paying for what you need. moneysavingexpert.com is helpful for giving free advice! by Someone

We've been with Direct Travel Insurance (http://www.direct-travel.co.uk/) for the last few years. Good price, excellent cover and no problems so far. I haven't needed to claim yet but I know a few people who have and it's gone through with no problems. by ollieclark

yes, you need the paper bit and then the photo to prove it is you, if you don't have the photocard they will need some other official photo ID, a passport is perfect by communityjules

Make sure you also have the same debit or credit card you booked the car with if you reserved in advance by internet or phone. They can sometimes be very fussy about that detail! If you haven't booked a car in advance, I'd suggest you do it will be one less thing to worry about. by lesanto
