Get an extra long cable and place it out of the way. Depending on the room configuration and placement of the TV, you could even put it in a cupboard - with an extension to pick up the remote infrared. by christopherbristow

A ground source heat pump should be ideal if you a little land too, you can also run it backwards in the summer to recharge the ground and cool your house if necessary. by darren

A stand alone wood burning stove may be the cheapest thing to start with, especially if you have access to free wood from nearby. You could connect a biomass boiler to a central heating and hot water system. Solar photovotaics cost more and you usually need a strong south facing roof. by soosy

They didnt take away our dish but be warned they kept taking money after we canceled and had a job getting it back so make sure you cancel the direct debit! by MandaR

They won't come round and take your dish away, you should still be able to get the free channels. Thats what happened with me. by arbymore

They left our diah and box and we could still get free channels, but you often have to give several months notice of cancelling by alithealien

erm.. put your uncooked leftovers, paper, card, plant and grass cuttings in it and leave it for a year, it's a slow process but it works. by darren

Yes, its a slow process, but you can speed things along a little with urine (yes, I joke not) - the enzimes help break composting things down more quickly. The other nasty side effect of composting is fruit flies - if it gets too bad, sprinkle a bit of soil over the top of the rotting matter - cardboard layers help this too. Shredded paper is good to add regularly - it helps keeps air moving through it. Make sure that the composter is in a position where the sun shines on it, too - heat helps everything compost more quickly! Have fun! by Mark

NO! Don't put them all in one go, that's what went wrong with ours. Also just shout if you want two little boys to pee on your compost as suggested by Mark. I'm sure mine would oblige (and it is so much easier for boys than girls) by soosy

Variety is key - including paper and cardboard. If you are really keen you can buy compost worms to kick start the process. The level will down really quickly in hot weather - it sis amazing. by Sarson
